Preserving the Authentic American Pit Bull
Welcome to Boldog Kennel
Boldog Kennel was founded in 1985, and I've been involved with dogs professionally since 1975. I have retired to the country now, and am no longer competing or breeding my pit bulls. For this reason, my websites are changing to reflect this new era of my life. This website will take the place of my older website: www.WorkingPitBull.com.

Due to the tragic lack of useful, truthful information on the American pit bull I am spending my spare time putting up a site that I feel I OWE these dogs. I love them, respect them, and am really saddened at what is happening to them today.  The one, real, true American pit bull is, today (2020) quite rare; having been replaced by insipid, watered down cripples bred by those with money - never gameness - as their goal.

You won't find information here about all the pit bull "knock offs", the blue dogs, oversized dogs, short, fat dogs, XXL dogs, head measurements, pocket pits "bullies" or any of that crap. I'll leave that to those people who exploit the animals for money and ego, with no respect for the animals themselves. The authentic pit bull is measured by a bulldog standard used for thousands of years; gameness, toughness, a grip you can trust your life too when hunting hogs or working cattle, combined with a rock solid, people friendly temperament. A dog with more grit and determination than any other.

Today the authentic pit bull is a RARE ANIMAL - AS HE SHOULD BE! A pit bull is a highly bred performance animal - not just another generic pet dog. Or, he should be. Those who work to make him "gentle" do him no favor - there is never a reason to change a breed from its origin... there are already too many "pet only" breeds. Rescues and shelters do no one any favors by trying to put a pit bull in every home. They don't belong in every home. They belong ONLY with those who know, respect and have work for them to do. Just like ANY real working breed.

This site will introduce you to some authentic pit bulls.  Dogs that showed
what a pit bull living in today's world could do.  They were "fighting dogs"
who didn't have a career in the pit because those days are gone.

From the mists of time the game bulldog was bred for its grip. First to hold
dangerous large game while humans approached for the kill.  Then when hunting
was replaced by farming, to hold and control bulls.  This talent led to the sport of
bullbaiting.  When this was banned, owners turned to fighting the dogs against
each other. Until the 1970s, gameness was the measure of this breed.

The world changes - and men change. Sadly. Gameness was replaced by
the desire to produce "hard mouthed" curs that could devastate another
dog in 15 minutes. Gameness in the dogs and the men who bred them was lost.
Today dog fighting is conducted by thugs, druggies and those with no concept
of gameness. Criminals who mistreat and exploit the dogs.  There may be a few
men left who breed a game dog - maybe.

I have never sold American pit bulls to the public.
Due to age and health I no longer breed these wonderful dogs.
